It was at such moments that the team at Akomi realized that the traditional approach to cash handling was no longer sufficient. They decided to take a step that is still rather exceptional in gastronomy – to automate cash operations.
A problem every business knows
Akomi operates as a modern fast-food concept, where speed is just as important as food quality. However, with a large share of cash payments came problems typical of most similar establishments:
· Cash losses. Manual handling carried the risk of errors and intentional discrepancies. These losses were repeated and collectively affected the financial results.
· Time-consuming processes. Counting tills during shift changes and evening closings took tens of minutes, often led to inaccuracies, and distracted employees from guests.
· Hygiene complications. When the same person handled cash and prepared food, it increased hygiene requirements and slowed operations.
“People were frustrated. Sometimes they spent more time at the tills than with guests. And our goal was for the customer to get food quickly and feel good,” says the restaurant manager.
Technology as a solution
Akomi therefore chose the CASHINFINITY™ CI-10 system from Glory – a device that automates both cash acceptance and dispensing. The decisive factors were easy integration with the existing POS system, intuitive operation, and a compact design that fit into the interior. It was also essential to meet the legal requirements of the Czech National Bank for cash recycling.
Immediate results
The implementation of the technology brought measurable results within the first weeks:
· routine cash handling was reduced from more than an hour per day to twenty minutes,
· the risk of losses or discrepancies practically disappeared,
· staff could focus on serving guests instead of administration.
Waiting times at the tills dropped by 50 percent. “CI-10 literally relieved our operations. Guests wait for a shorter time, staff are happier, and efficiency has clearly increased,” confirms Akomi management.
A trend that is changing gastronomy
Digitization is now entering areas that only recently seemed untouchable. While a few years ago gastronomy focused mainly on online reservations and app-based ordering, today the focus has shifted to the cash register itself. According to data from the Czech Banking Association, although the share of cashless payments is growing, cash remains dominant in gastronomy. This makes its efficient and secure processing all the more important.
Inspiration for other businesses
The experience of Akomi shows that cash automation is not only about technology but also about a change in operational mindset. The key is to evaluate how much time and energy cash handling truly costs the business and to compare that with the potential benefits of automation. If the goal is faster service, fewer errors, and more satisfied guests, such a solution may also pay off for other restaurants or stores.
